Description
Job Purpose:
To support a young woman with a learning disability to access social activities and continue developing her independence skills.
Location: Horstead, NR12.
Details:
S is an active 28-year-old lady with a good sense of humour, who enjoys activities typical of those in her age group such as swimming, eating out, music and dance. S has learning difficulties associated with Down's Syndrome and lives in an independent living setting within the family home.
Your role will be to support S to access her local community and social activities outside of her home, and to provide overnight support to S in order to provide Mum some respite.
You will be a carer who is capable of ensuring clear behavioural boundaries with S, before establishing a friendship.
Supporting S to identify and access social activities and events of interest to her, including socialising with friends, in a safe and structured environment.
Supporting S to continue developing her independence skills for adult life, such as cooking and domestic chores, swimming and shopping.
Ensuring S's safety at all times when out and about in the community, e.g. road safety awareness, handling money in public or speaking to strangers, and when at home, e.g. when using cooking appliances.
Prompting S to attend to aspects of her personal care. Possibly accompanying occasionally for routine medical appointments.
Providing overnight support to S in her own home, which involves assisting S with her bedtime and morning routine and assisting her if she needs support during the night, which is generally only if she feels unwell. You can usually expect not to be disturbed during the night.
Providing general support around the home such as helping S feed the dogs and let them out into the garden.
Any other reasonable duties as required.

Essential
Car owner/driver with appropriate business use insurance.
Must be female due to personal care aspect of role. (Schedule 9, P1 of the Equality Act 2010 applies)
An ability to understand when to step forward and when to step back as required to enable S to develop her independence.
Similar interests with a willingness to partake in activities appropriate to a 28-year-old lady.
Happy to work around dogs and cat..
Summary terms and conditions
The rate of pay for this position is £15 per hour and £61.50 per sleep in night (10pm-8am).
You will be reimbursed for any agreed expenses incurred as part of the role, including mileage at 45p per mile.
Hours and times of work: 2 PA vacancies to cover 18 hours plus 2 overnights a month, with 7 hours wraparound with each overnight.
The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work I would normally expect to be done during 5.6 consecutive weeks.
