Accessibility

This accessibility statement applies to www.norfolkcarecareers.co.uk

This website is supported by Norfolk County Council.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • Zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen and without content being truncated or overlapping
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We aim to meet the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at AA level.

However, we know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • Some components like buttons and form fields on this website do not have accessible names
  • Some buttons and form fields do not have correct accessible names, roles or labels, so may be confusing to someone using assistive technology
  • The colour contrast between the background and text on some buttons may not be sufficient when you hover over them with a mouse
  • Videos do not come with audio description
  • When the homepage is zoomed in to 400% part of the search box cuts off and one of the links on the page is partly hidden by an image
  • When the map view of the Search for jobs in adult social care is zoomed into at 200% or 400% it obscures the text for the search filters if you try to use them
  • On the job vacancy pages some text functions as a heading but is not correctly marked up as a heading in the HTML
  • The postcode box on the Search for jobs in adult social care page does not have the correct autocomplete attribute assigned to it
  • Some meaningful content is implemented using CSS. This means that it's not available to users if CSS is switched off

Technical information about this website's accessibility

Norfolk County Council is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Accessible names, descriptions and labels

There are several issues relating to accessible names, descriptions and labels on this website:

  • The accessible name for the job search field on the homepage doesn't accurately describe its purpose
  • The site search field in the website header on all pages doesn't have an accessible name
  • There are issues with the labelling and accessible names for some buttons on the Task Management page (used by site administrators and not available to the public). The accessible names do not make it clear how using the button would help to sort items in the table. The chevrons used are also only implemented using CSS so would not be available if CSS was turned off.
  • The header row on the table used on the Task Management page does not have the correct ARIA attribute assigned to it
  • The navigation bar at the bottom of the Task Management page has an element where the label ('Next') and the accessible name ('Page 2') do not match.

These fail:

  • WCAG 3.3.2 Labels and Instructions
  • WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships
  • WCAG 2.5.3 Label in Name
  • WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value

Colour contrast

The contrast between the text and the background colours of the 'search' buttons when you hover over them (white text on an olive background) doesn't appear to be sufficient enough. This also affects the 'Email' buttons on the job vacancy pages.

On the Search for jobs in adult social care page, the 'New' button on the right-hand side of the job vacancy boxes does not have sufficient contrast between the background and foreground colours.

This fails:

  • WCAG 1.4.11 State Changes
  • WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)

Audio description on videos

Videos on the website come with subtitles but do not have an audio description attached to them.

This fails:

  • WCAG 1.2.3 Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded)
  • WCAG 1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded)

Resizing of homepage

When the homepage is zoomed in to 400%, wording in the search text box cuts off and one of the links on the page is partly hidden by an image.

This fails: WCAG 1.4.10 Reflow

Resizing of map and text on Search for jobs in adult social care page

When the page is set to map view and resized to 200% or 400%, if you click on the search filters the map runs over the text and obscures it. Also, if the page is blown up to 400%, the text in the job vacancies search panel cuts off in places.

This fails: WCAG 1.4.4 Resize Text

Missing headings

This affects the job vacancy pages. On the table of job details the words in bold, such as 'Hours', 'Service type' and 'Driving licence required' function like headings but are not marked up as headings in the HTML.

This fails: WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships

Autocomplete

On the Search for jobs in adult social care page, the text box where you can type in your postcode does not have the correct autocomplete attribute assigned to it.

This fails: WCAG 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose
