Description
The role of a Care Assistant at The Coach House Residential Home involves providing high-quality, person-centred care while respecting residents' rights and choices. Care Assistants are expected to work flexible shifts, including weekends, holidays, and nights, while continuously developing professional skills through training programs like NVQs.
Key Responsibilities:
Care and Support
Assist with personal care and daily living needs.
Support residents in maintaining memory and life skills.
Help serve meals and provide assistance with eating.
Ensure residents' safety and well-being.
Contribute to therapeutic and social programs.
Provide support for residents with diverse cultural values.
Health and Safety
Follow health and safety policies, including COSHH, infection control, and safeguarding.
Report accidents and faulty equipment.
Use equipment safely, including hoists and electric beds.
Adhere to fire safety and manual handling procedures.
Communication
Participate in handovers, meetings, and training.
Maintain respectful communication with residents, families, and colleagues.
Handle telephone and door inquiries courteously.
Confidentiality
Maintain strict confidentiality in line with GDPR and the Freedom of Information Act.
Protect personal data and adhere to the Data Security and Protection Toolkit.
Physical and Emotional Demands
Perform manual handling, push wheelchairs, and stand or walk for extended periods.
Manage emotional interactions with distressed residents and families.
Handle exposure to body fluids and challenging behaviours.
Education and Professionalism
Attend training and study days.
Develop professional skills such as effective communication, teamwork, and time management.
Display professionalism, patience, and compassion.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
Teamwork and initiative.
Strong communication and time management skills.
Satisfactory DBS clearance.
Desired Skills
Familiarity with data protection and Caldicott Principles.
